KSL First Night Report

Friday night saw four of the eight pairs in the 2013 Kernow Super League competing, due to some players having conflicting diary events.

The first match on between James/Pete, and Lee/Jo proved to be a close one, the score being tight all the way through the doubles, until the deadlock was broken with a point deduction from Lee and Jo after an expletive was heard by the scorer! The singles were both close too, and James and Pete eventually won the match 2-1, but the points total shows 57 - 56!

A preferred format for the matches emerged, with the doubles games being played first, with the singles following.

The second match was Lee/Jo v Jack/Josh, this again was a close fought game, with Lee/Jo winning 2-1, but again with a close points score of 60 - 58.

The third match was delayed by Chris Grout accidentally being in Bude rather than Newquay!  Jack and Josh outpointed their opponents comfortably in the singles, but Chris and Chris came through to win the doubles 21-18.

Next was James/Pete v Chris/Chris, and this again produced a 2-1 win to James and Pete, after Chris G took the second singles with a 21-20 win.

All four pairs completed two matches each, and some close games mean that there are only 3 points covering the top 3 teams.  Fortunately there is enough court time for the remaining 4 pairs to catch up over the next four sessions.

The SportsHub at Treviglas proved to be an excellent venue, for both players and spectators.

Thanks go to Sue Biscoe, for helping organise the games, taking scores and organising shuttle sales, and to Dave Philp for taking on a scoring role for several games.

The date for the next session is 7th June - all spectators welcome.
